Mexican migration to Oregon is closely tied to agriculture. The Willamette Valley — Woodburn, Salem, Hillsboro, Hood River — has for decades been home to Mexican families working in fruit, nurseries, wine and food processing, with a strong presence of Indigenous communities from Oaxaca, Guerrero and Michoacán. Woodburn is in fact one of the most heavily Mexican cities in the Pacific Northwest.
The consulate, in southwest Portland near Portland State University, serves 32 Oregon counties plus Clark, Skamania and Klickitat counties in Washington State — that is, the Vancouver (WA) area and the Columbia River corridor. It is the only Mexican consular office in the state.

I live in Vancouver, Washington. Do I go to Portland or Seattle?
Portland. Clark County, where Vancouver sits, belongs to the Portland consular district, as do Skamania and Klickitat. The rest of Washington State is served by the Seattle consulate. It is one of the most common mix-ups in the Northwest: geographically you are in Washington, but consularly you belong to Oregon.
I work in the fields in Woodburn or Hood River. Is there anything closer?
The consulate runs mobile consulate days in farming communities across the Willamette Valley and the Columbia River corridor, precisely for people who cannot travel to Portland during working hours. Dates are announced at short notice and fill quickly; if none fit, the Portland office serves by appointment.
Does the consulate assist in Indigenous languages?
A large share of Oregon's Mexican community comes from Oaxaca, Guerrero and Michoacán, and includes speakers of Mixtec, Zapotec and Triqui. Consulates work with interpreters and community organizations, especially in protection cases. If you need interpretation, say so when booking so they can arrange it.

What are the exact hours? I have seen different ones.
Official office hours are Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 5:30 pm. That is half an hour later than most Mexican consulates in the U.S., so do not assume an 8:00 am opening. Appointment slots are assigned within that window when you book through MEXITEL.
Is there another Mexican consulate in Oregon?
No. Portland is the only Mexican consular office in the state, which is why its district spans 32 counties. If you live in eastern Oregon, Boise may be closer in miles, but Portland remains the competent office unless told otherwise.
